Classics Book Tag!

I don't often read classics, but that's something I'd like to change, so hopefully by doing the classics book tag I'll be inspired to actually start The Great Gatsby instead of letting it sit on my bookshelf mocking me.

An overhyped classic you didn't really like:
Definitely The Swiss Family Robinson! Looking at the Goodreads reviews, this book seems to give people memories of having it read to them/reading it as a child, which makes sense, but I really didn't like the way everything was handed to the family and how the narrator was just a misogynistic, over-pompous Percy Weasley.

Favorite time period to read about:
Probably either the 1700s or late 1800s/early 1900s! I'm not sure why, those time periods just strike me as interesting.

Favorite fairy tale:
I'm more of a mythology person and I tend to enjoy retellings more than actual fairy tales, but I really like Rapunzel, especially Tangled!

The classic you're embarrassed you haven't read yet:
A lot of them, honestly. I've only ever read a few, but one that stick out to me is Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. I know the general plotline and have attempted reading it a few times, and despite really wanting to enjoy it, just can't get very far into the book!

Top 5 classics you'd like to read:
1) Pride and Prejudice
2) The Great Gatsby
3) Emma
4) Wuthering Heights
5) Hamlet or really any Shakespeare play (I've only read Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream)

Favorite modern book based on a classic:
I absolutely loved My Plain Jane, which is based on Jane Eyre! I also read a middle-grade book series called The Mother-Daughter Book Club that helped introduce me to Little Women and the Betsy-Tacy series!

An underhyped classic you'd like to recommend:
The full Anne of Green Gables series! Most people have heard of the first book, but there are actually eight books total in the series and they're all really good. If you've liked Anne of Green Gables but haven't read the rest of the series, you should definitely do so!
